Missing German “was burnt to death in his camper van”

Digital nomad Artur Lorenz, reported missing by his family in May, was murdered and burnt in the Vito campervan that he was meant to be driving home in to Germany.

This is the theory at least of a team of German investigators who travelled to Viseu this week to inspect the burnt out wreckage of the van, discovered days after the family reported their loved one missing.

A highly-trained sniffer dog accompanied the investigative team, and identified “various points of the vehicle, and outside of it, that could hide mortal remains of Arthur”, writes Correio da Manhá today. Investigator Axel Hehl is quoted as saying that the van/ Artur were doused in diesel and set light to.

The temperature of the fire “exceeded a thousand degrees”, said the retired policeman. Everything points to Artur having been attacked and killed on May 4. As for motive/ suspects, all this for now remains unexplained.
