DURING A blackout in Argentina, the light from mobile phone screens allowed surgeons to complete an appendectomy.
The back-up generator failed to work after the power went out in the hospital and, in a desperate move, family members of the patient ran out into the hall and asked people to lend them their mobile phones. Surgeons managed to finish the operation without power with the light from the phones.
