Modelo Continente gives workers €500 to mitigate effects of inflation

Supermarket giant Modelo Continente is paying its workers (roughly 36,000) an extra €500 this month to mitigate the effects of inflation “and bring a better Christmas for everyone”. The “extraordinary support” will cost the company more than €15 million, said parent company Sonae in a statement today, outlining other ‘benefits’ proposed for workers. The decision may also have something to do with the government’s decision to tax supermarket chains making extraordinary profits.
