More Saharan dust (and fleetingly high temperatures) on way to Portugal

Temperatures in some areas could reach 27ºC

As of Friday, Portugal expects to be hit by yet another cloud of dust from North Africa.

According to Portuguese Sea and Atmosphere Institute IPMA, from Friday afternoon there will be “suspended dust, most likely in the southern region”. The dust is expected to continue until at least Sunday.

Depression Olivia, which is hitting the Azores, will also bring a mass of warm air.

According to the IPMA, temperatures are expected to rise, especially the maximum. On Friday, temperatures could reach 27 degrees in some parts of the continent.

However, the heat will be temporary and, at the weekend, temperatures will drop again, especially in the centre and coastal north.

Rain is also forecast for the weekend. Where it does rain, it will be muddy, warns IPMA, as the Saharan dust will be in the air.
