The surgeries were carried out as part of the ‘extraordinary surgical programme OncoStop2024’, created by Portugal’s AD government to reduce waiting lists. Ms Martins has always stressed the urgency of cancer surgeries, saying “every day of delay waiting for surgery is a day of enormous uncertainty and suffering”. Receiving the news, PS MP Mariana Vieira da Silva commented that “once again” these are numbers the PS cannot evaluate.
