Morocco earthquake felt in Algarve

A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck northern Morocco on Monday and was felt in the Algarve, including Albufeira, Faro, Loulé, Olhão, and Silves, according to IPMA.

The quake’s epicentre was 75 km southwest of Tétouan. No damage was recorded.

This earthquake follows Morocco’s devastating 2023 earthquake, which measured 6.9 on the Richter scale and caused significant destruction, killing nearly 3,000 people.
