Mother of two ‘gunned down’ in Abrantes

“It was a veritable execution”, tabloid Correio da Manhã writes today, of the death of a 34-year-old mother of two whose 61-year-old partner later handed himself in to police 50kms away. The young woman was shot “various times” early yesterday morning, taking bullets to the head and chest. She died on the way to hospital. Her former partner is understood to have been ‘refusing’ the divorce that the woman wanted. The two children were mercifully not at the scene where their mother was killed. CM says they had spent the previous night at the house of a friend of the victim. PJ police have arrested the 61-year-old partner, and are collecting evidence pointing to murder in the context of domestic violence. Fatal cases of domestic violence in the first three months of this year exceeded those of 2023: eight women lost their lives, three more than in the first three months of last year.
