Moto Clube de Faro launches food drive to help the homeless

The Moto Clube de Faro has launched a food drive to help those in need in the municipality, particularly the homeless.

Anyone can help by leaving their donations at the vans that are parked at the club’s two entrances – the main entrance located on Avenida Cidade Hayward near the petrol station and the back entrance on Rua Reitor Teixeira.

The donations should preferably be items with long shelf lives such as rice, pasta, canned goods, cereal and milk.

José Amaro, president of the bikers’ club, told Barlavento that the closure of most restaurants has made it harder for associations which would receive food from them to donate to those in need.

“We are hoping that everyone can contribute, particularly those with the most conditions to do so,” he said.

The club is also calling on other biker clubs and associations to carry out similar food drives in their towns.

Food items can be left at the club’s main entrance 24 hours a day and at the back entrance between 10am and midday and 2.30pm and 5.30pm.

As people are advised to stay home during the State of Emergency, monetary donations are also being accepted which will be used to purchase food for the needy.

The food drive will continue for as long as it is necessary.
