Nanoparticle against breast cancer

A nanoparticle (particle on an atomic, molecular scale) used to treat breast cancer, preventing chemotherapy side effects and enhancing therapeutic efficiency, was patented in the USA by a team of investigators from the Portuguese University of Coimbra (UC).

The nanoparticle is called PEGASEMP and has improved precision to kill cancer cells and surrounding blood vessels, preventing the cancer from spreading.

The nanoparticle will now be promoted worldwide by the Portuguese spin-off company Treat U from the Coimbra University.
