It may not sound like the most inspiring accolade, but Portugal is “among the countries in which health professionals most wash their hands”.
The ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) has been studying data, and can conclude that health professionals in Portugal, Ireland, Luxembourg and Slovenia are the ones that most strictly adhere to hand-washing protocols (in the focus on containing the possible spread of germs), which is hugely important when one considers that every year 4.3 MILLION hospital patients contract infections (sometimes deadly infections) while interned in hospitals.
