António Damásio, a US-based Portugal-born neuroscientist who is a leader in his field, has for personal reasons resigned as a member of President Marcelo’s Council of State, and has been replaced by conductor Joana Carneiro, according to information posted on the president’s official website today. The five presidential appointees on the council – which is the head of State’s top advisory panel – are now Carneiro, former government minister Leonor Beleza, writer Lídia Jorge, former CDS-PP MP António Lobo Xavier and Luís Marques Mendes, a former leader of PSD social democrats and current regular political commentator on SIC Notícias.
