It was all change at Parque da Floresta as Jim Reid enjoyed his Captain’s Farewell and Ralph Griffin was welcomed as new Golf Club Captain. A special Texas Scramble golf competition was held, with a celebratory evening dinner and prize-giving presentation. The winners, with a score of 57.8, were Arthur Berry, Ruth Bullock, Peter Bond and Xenia Kowatschitch. After dinner, in time-honoured tradition, the former Captain, Jim Reid, ‘putted out’ on the 18th, while the new Captain, Ralph Griffin, ‘drove in’ on the 10th.
Ralph Griffin has been a member of the golf club since he and his wife Jeanette arrived here in Portugal in 1997. He expressed his delight at his new role: “I’d like to thank Jim Reid for all he has done at the club. He’s been a great ambassador for us. I’m truly honoured to be the captain of what I believe to be the best golf club in the Algarve and I’m looking forward to working with my Vice Captain Richard Stead. I wish all the members a great year’s golf and many good nights of fun and banter in the Spike Bar!”
