The Portuguese health service’s ‘new Covid vaccination campaign’ gets underway today, offering ‘updated’ vaccines only to people who have already had their full complement on shots: the rest are to be given ‘original vaccines’ which, in spite of experts warning ‘give little protection against new variants’, are, according to the DGS health authority, ‘adequate for providing protection against severe illness and death’. The campaign’s focus, besides rolling out further vaccines to everyone over the age of 60, centres on trying to persuade children over the age of 12 to come forwards (for original vaccines, already labelled ‘obsolete’ by experts when they were pushing the DGS to purchase updated vaccines). In tandem with the Covid shots, people over the age of 60 are being offered ‘boosted’ flu shots.
