Albufeira’s new dog park was inaugurated on Saturday, July 20 at Parque da Alfarrobeira, near the local bus station.
The opening ceremony was attended by local leaders, such as Albufeira mayor José Carlos Rolo, deputy mayor Cristiano Cabrita, and Albufeira and Olhos de Água parish council president Indaleta Cabrita, as well as several local citizens accompanied by their four-legged friends.
There was a wealth of entertainment throughout the day, from musical performances by local artists Ana Reis, Mário Inácio and MAFIDI, to workshops aimed at children focusing on turning rubbish into “useful day-to-day objects.” Visitors were also gifted water-saving kits, including water flow restrictors which can be installed on home taps, “providing water bill savings of around 25%”. Several lectures and workshops were also held throughout the afternoon, as well as a capoeira demonstration by Grupo Muzenza.
According to Indaleta Cabrita, the new dog park will help “create even stronger bonds between dogs and their owners by providing them with joyful moments of play and exploration.”
The parish council president also invited the entire population to “bring their four-legged friends to the new park,” which she said is also great for hikes and taking a moment’s rest.
Aside from the new dog park, Parque da Alfarrobeira also has a new insect hotel.
“This event, as well as the various activities carried out during it, are part of the Albufeira and Olhos de Água parish council’s strategy, which is marked by strong support for the animal cause and also by raising environmental awareness among the population, at a time when saving natural resources is so important,” the parish council said in a statement to the press.
The inauguration ceremony of the new dog park was also attended by all local animal associations, from PRAVI to Pata Ativa, which the parish council says it supports.
