It is the second dog park to open in the borough
A new dog park opened last Thursday (February 22) at Quinta João de Ourém in Pechão, Olhão.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by students from the nearby Escola Básica 2,3 Professor Paula Nogueira school, located just a stone’s throw away from the park.
Some of the dogs currently looking for their forever homes at the municipal kennel were also ‘invited’ to the party.
“All the ‘visitors’ of this new dog park were very excited about it and there was no shortage of teachers praising the local council’s initiative, because it has ‘a great impact on the development and learning of children’,” Olhão’s municipal council said in a statement to the press.
This is the second dog park to open in the municipality of Olhão, the first having been inaugurated at Olhão’s Parque do Levante. The goal is to open a total of seven dog parks in the municipality, with Quelfes next in line to receive one.
The goal of these parks is to provide a space where owners can provide a safe outdoor experience for their dogs, whilst also allowing schools and charities to use these spaces for other activities related to the well-being of animals, the local council added.
