Hotel will be located next to the rundown Arade Congress Centre in Ferragudo
The Água Hotels Group has announced the construction of a new four-star hotel near the rundown Arade Congress Centre between Parchal and Ferragudo.
The group will be investing €20 million in the new hotel, which is due to begin construction in 2025 and open in 2027.
The project involves the renovation of the main building of a former fish canning factory, which will house the hotel’s reception, bar, and restaurant.
With a total construction area of 11,500 square metres, the hotel will feature 169 rooms, including five suites, which will be located in a new building to be built to the east of the main building. In between the two will be an open central courtyard with gardens and a pool, the group says. Additional facilities will include a gym, spa, and indoor parking.
Cited in the group’s press release, Água Hotels Group administrator Mário Guerreiro says the goal is to “revitalise an area that is currently rundown and abandoned” and “transform it into a high-quality reference point for the municipality of Lagoa in a historically significant area of the Algarve,” similarly to what the group did with the Água Hotels Riverside, located by the Arade River in Parchal.
“We are confident that our new hotel in Ferragudo will be a success and will significantly contribute to the local economy,” adds Bruno Canhoto, the group’s commercial director. “Its strategic location, proximity to the congress centre, and the expansion of our hotel offerings are key factors for this project.”
Canhoto also highlighted that the hotel will be located near the “picturesque village of Ferragudo and the historic area of Portimão, with easy access to local attractions and beaches.”
“The proximity to the Arade Congress Centre, one of the largest in the Algarve, with an auditorium seating 1,100, positions the hotel as an ideal choice for corporate events and business meetings. This project, the group’s largest in terms of the number of rooms, strengthens our growth strategy in the Algarve,” Canhoto adds.
The new hotel will also be located near the new urban park which is under construction in Parchal.
Currently, the Água Hotels group already owns several hotel units, including Água Hotels Riverside (Parchal), Água Hotels Alvor Jardim (Alvor), Água Hotels Vila Branca (Lagos), Água Hotels Mondim de Basto (Vila Real), and Água Hotels Sal Vila Verde (Cape Verde). Two more units are also under construction, one in Bragança and another in Lagos, the group says.
