ETA will cost €12 and take three days to issue…
The often exasperating process of flying is set to become even more fraught with rules if Europeans are keen to visit the United Kingdom from April next year.
Electronic authorisation – going by the initials ETA – will be demanded of all European flyers visiting England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Explaining the news today, tabloid Correio da Manhã says “this authorisation will imply advance registration, through an app, of personal and biometric details.
“The payment will be £10, which rounds out at around €12.
“The authorisation could take up to three days to be issued, and will be valid for two years – during which time multiple visits to the UK could be made”.
Complicating the rollout further is the fact that non-Europeans (Americans, Brazilians, Africans, etc.) can apply for an ETA from November 27, and will be required to carry one from January 8, whereas Europeans can only apply from March 5, and will only be required to carry one from April 2, 2025.
Says CM, “the ETA can be rejected on the basis of criminal antecedents, or in the case of risk, for example, of terrorism”.
