New luxury hotel to open in Lagos

JW Marriot Algarve Palmares Hotel & Spa will be part of the Palmares Ocean Living & Golf Resort

The Norfin Group, part of Arrow Global, has revealed plans to build a new five-star hotel in Lagos, Algarve. The JW Marriott Algarve Palmares Hotel & Spa will feature 172 luxury rooms and suites, located at the Palmares Ocean Living & Golf resort.

Construction began in February, with the project also set to include 133 JW Marriott-branded residences in the future.

“This JW Marriott hotel will be the brand’s first in Portugal and will be the factor that will elevate the Palmares resort, establishing a new benchmark for luxury in the Algarve,” said Francisco Sottomayor, CEO of Norfin Group. “We have selected every detail of the hotel’s design to create the perfect atmosphere, reflecting the quality of the natural surroundings and characteristics. Every detail has been thoughtfully crafted to provide a sophisticated and comfortable experience”.

The project is also being developed alongside RCR Arquitectes and Goddard Littlefair, which are pooling their talents in the areas of architecture and interior design to “create a unique experience for guests,” he added.

JW Marriot Algarve Palmares Hotel & Spa will offer a variety of accommodations, including 80 Standard King rooms, 68 Standard Double rooms, 22 suites, and 2 Signature Suites.

“The hotel is part of a unified concept with the aim of creating a unique place: Palmares – a place where architecture is the landscape and the landscape is the architecture,” said Rafael Aranda, founding member of RCR Arquitectes.

Exclusive amenities at the hotel will include a continuous-service restaurant, a signature fine dining space, a poolside bar, a lounge and bar in the lobby, a wellness and fitness centre, a Family by JW kids’ club, indoor and outdoor pools, meeting rooms, room and driver services, and dedicated spa treatment rooms.

The property will also feature brand-specific elements, including a JW Garden, various tranquillity areas, and Family by JW experiences. Guests will have easy access to the wider resort, which includes a 27-hole golf course, future padel facilities, and the Michelin-star Al-Sud restaurant, as well as other luxury amenities.

“The launch of the JW Marriott Algarve Palmares Hotel & Spa reflects the strong growth opportunities we’re seeing in luxury accommodation in Portugal. We are excited to partner with Norfin Group to bring the legacy of JW Marriott to this stunning destination, offering extraordinary service, thoughtfully designed spaces, and enriching wellness experiences,” said Timothy Walton, Senior Vice President of Development for Western Europe at Marriott International.
