Nine arrested in new PSP operation in Olivais area of Lisbon

Operation part of special crime prevention strategy

Lisbon’s Public Security Police were back leading a special crime prevention operation today, two weeks after the ‘polemic’ Martim Moniz swoop that generated so much criticism.

This time, the Olivais area of Lisbon was targeted. Nine people were arrested; a “bladed weapon, and a firearm seized”, along with narcotics, sundry weapons (ammunition of various calibers, a knuckleduster/ an extendable baton/ replica firearm), various narcotics – the number of doses involved has yet to be established – a precision scale and 21 bottles of nitrous oxide (laughing gas).

The operation began at 7am, with police this time exercising 22 house search warrants.

This is the third operation of its kind since Martim Moniz, the fall-out from carried on through the Christmas season.
