Nineteen year old dies after shooting in Amadora

Young man shot during New Year festivities

A 19-year-old died in the early hours of this morning after being shot in Amadora, during the New Year festivities.

According to reports, the young man was shot in the chest.

PJ police are investigating – and, for now, have given no further details.

Information on social media suggests PSP police were alerted very quickly after the shooting, and “immediately reinforced policing in the area”.

The youngster was shot in Avenida Lourenço Marques at around 2am, and transported to Fernando da Fonseca Hospital (Amadora-Sintra) where he died.

UPDATE January 2:

The victim has been named as Adilson da Veiga. According to Correio da Manhã this morning, the youngster was among hundreds of young people at an ‘informal party’ in which firecrackers etc., were being let off, and a ‘great deal of alcohol consumed’. “The crime had a number of witnesses”, says the paper, but police have come up against a “wall of silence. No one say or heard anything”. The only hope is that CCTV images from cameras metres from the place where Adilson was shot “may help solve the case”.
