In a Council of Ministers today that focused on measures to improve the lives of young people in Portugal, the government has approved a measure that allows university students studying away from home and without a scholarship to receive 50% of the accommodation supplement, as long as their household’s per capita income does not exceed €14,259.28 per year. Scholarship students studying away from home already receive this support, which was proposed by PS Socialists “to broaden the universe of beneficiaries”. Minister for Youth and Modernisation Margarida Balseiro Lopes added that beyond this new support, the government is going to ‘boost’ the number of beds available for student rental through agreements with Youth Hostels and the INATEL foundation.
