Non-teaching staff call strike for October 4

Non-teaching staff at the nation’s schools have called a national strike for October 4, stressing the action “could still be stopped by the education minister”. All Fernando Alexandre would have to do is start the ball rolling on improving this sector’s pay and conditions, which union leader Artur Sequeira explains are respectively much too low and precarious. With the government saying it doesn’t have a pay increase specifically for this sector in mind, an impasse will mean ‘no school’ for that day, as schools will not open without non-teaching staff in place.
