Number of homeless people in Lisbon increased 25% in 2023

The numbers themselves may sound relatively ‘small’ (530 people), but they show that rough sleepers in Lisbon are 25% up on numbers from the year before. According to association Comunidade Vida e Paz – which distributes meals to the  homeless – the ‘new intake’ is largely made up of young people and immigrants, “a lot of migrants”. Comunidade Vida e Paz is hoping a fund-raising effort will allow it to meet the increasing demand.
