Nurses protest outside Amadora-Sintra hospital for end to pay discrimination

Dozens of nurses gathered in front of Amadora-Sintra Hospital, in the Lisbon area, on Thursday to demand the same pay conditions as the rest of the nurses in the national health service, warning that if this doesn’t happen hundreds of professionals could leave the unit.

Uniformed and carrying placards with inscriptions such as ‘Care for those who care’, ‘HFF nurses are right’, ‘Without pay rises there is no motivation’, the professionals are demanding to be covered by the agreement signed in September between the ministry of health and a platform of five unions, which provides for a pay rise of around 20% by 2027.
