In São Bento, as close as permitted to the prime minister’s official residence, nurses have been protesting today, with the message that they feel “increasingly discriminated against”. In a lament that mirrors similar struggles in other European countries (and in the UK), the nurses have stressed they are “increasingly exhausted”, seeing more and more colleagues “leave the profession” for work that offers better pay and conditions, or is simply not so physically tiring.
