After all the pressure, all the dire warnings of what could happen ‘if’ anything went wrong, Spanish authorities have agreed to dismantle the creaking ‘obsolete’ nuclear power station at Almaraz, on the banks of the Tejo river, a little over 100 miles from the border with Portugal. Environmentalists have signalled their satisfaction. The plant will start being dismantled in 2028. It is a process that will take five years, and cost anything up to €28 million.
