In a letter sent to the executive director of the SNS State health service, obstetricians at Leiria Hospital have requested “excuse of responsibility” due to exhaustion. The doctors say they delivered 242 babies, and admitted 1,476 women in July – a marked increase on workloads in June due to the decision by the SNS hierarchy to ‘increase the hospital’s area of influence”.
