Olhão’s Municipal Fire Department received new equipment worth over €200,000.

Olhão’s Municipal Fire Department received state-of-the-art firefighting equipment in a ceremony led by Mayor António Miguel Pina last Wednesday, August 7.

The Fire Department’s new equipment, valued at more than €200,000, marks the completion of the modernisation and standardisation process to ensure optimal safety conditions for personnel during their duties, tailored to different operational roles and incidents.

The new equipment includes new PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) for the new brigade members and specialised state-of-the-art helmets for forest and urban fires for the entire corporation.

The recent acquisitions also included new defibrillators, enhanced pre-hospital backpacks, and radios for the SIRESP and ROB networks.

For the mayor, António Miguel Pina, “we have to recognise that, due to the specificity and danger of the functions they perform, firefighters always have a prominent position in our investment priorities. In this sense, we have spared no effort to ensure these men and women have the best conditions”.

Confessing a “particular fondness” for firefighters, the mayor recalled that “the delivery of this equipment is the culmination of an investment process that, over the last few years, has made our Fire Department one of the best equipped in the entire Algarve”.

António Miguel Pina made the most of the event to share his hopes of launching a competition for the construction of future barracks by the end of this term.
