€1.3 million in EU funding being used to renovate public housing in Olhão
Olhão Municipal Council is renovating two public housing neighbourhoods – Horta da Cavalinha and Horta Dr. Pádua – using over €1.3 million of EU funding.
The renovation works are being carried out using exclusively community funding which was attributed via the 1º Direito programme, included in Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
In Bairro Horta Dr. Pádua, a total of 97 houses located in 13 buildings managed by the municipality are being revamped to the tune of just over €1 million, while over €276,000 is being invested in the refurbishment of 28 apartments in six buildings in Bairro Horta da Cavalinha.
The municipal council is planning to support around 1,000 families in the coming years through its local housing strategy, be it by carrying out renovations to existing public housing or by building new buildings.
Olhão mayor António Pina says the council is using the available community funding to improve the living conditions of those who need it most in the borough.
“The improvement of living conditions is one of the main objectives of our mandate,” Pina adds.
