‘Operation Blackout’ descends on car stands, mechanics workshops

Porto’s Metropolitan Command of the PSP police has initiated a country-wide search of warehouses, car stands, mechanics workshops and homes in an operation dubbed ‘Blackout’ targeting thefts of vehicles and components. According to early reports already three people have been arrested, 14 vehicles apprehended, along with “electronic equipment intended for vehicle decoding – diagnostic machines, laptops and tablets with ECU decoding software, OBD plug connection adapters, GSM and GPS signal inhibition equipment, cell phones, €54,000 in cash and the keys of various makes of cars. With searches still ongoing from Lisbon to Viana do Castelo, the Porto Metropolitan Command has said it will give “a final assessment” of the operation tomorrow.
