The 9th edition of the “Silves Capital da Laranja” fair will be held at FISSUL between February 14 and 16.
Silves is celebrating the 9th edition of the “Capital da Laranja” (Capital of the Orange) fair from February 14 to 16.
In addition to a comprehensive programme, which will bring together dozens of exhibitors, producers associated with citrus farming, local associations, and regional entities, the event will feature musical entertainment and comedy.
The lineup highlights include fado singer Carminho, pop group Os Quatro e Meia, and comedian Rouxinol Faduncho.
For three days, visitors will have the chance to sample and savour the finest local and regional products, wines, diverse gastronomy, sweets, and unique crafts, all centred around the renowned Silves oranges.
The event’s official opening will take place at the FISSUL venue at 10h30 on February 14. The afternoon will feature the now-customary Laranja XXI Conference, which will discuss the theme “The Water that Unites.” The conference aims to give voice to farmers and this sector of special importance to the municipality of Silves.
Numerous activities will take place over the weekend, including the International Cocktail Competition – Silves Capital of the Orange and the debate titled “Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises – What support? What financial instruments? What incentives?”. During this event, the Portuguese Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, in partnership with Vicentina – Association for the Development of the Southwest, will address all these questions.
There is also a place for the “Climate Change and Citrus Farming” seminar, where the University of the Algarve (UAlg) will present a practical vision for more efficient agricultural projects.
As anticipated, the 9th Silves Capital of Orange Show also showcases a variety of traditional music and dance performances, areas dedicated to children, and the Marcha dos Namorados, which has already become a reference in the Algarve region.
Oranges will reign supreme on the streets of Silves during the 9th edition of the “Orange Flavour Weekend,” which starts on February 13. The restaurants participating in the initiative are preparing to showcase inventive and diverse dishes featuring the distinctive and exceptional Silves Orange as the key flavour.
