More than four out of five parents (85%) are against the education ministry’s pilot project substituting printed-on-paper school workbooks. The project currently covers 23,000 pupils, from the 3rd to 12th years. It has already been running for four years, and, according to the movement calling for its end, “it is difficult to find anyone who has positive opinions”. One of the main drawbacks to children ‘working online’ with these manuals is that they can become ‘distracted’ and find themselves accessing inappropriate links. Parents also say that their children ‘retain less’ from digital workbooks than printed versions.
