Parents and guardians from the Dona Filipa de Lencastre School Group, in Lisbon, have written an open letter to the authorities warning of the serious shortage of non-teaching staff in schools and “the lessons lost” as a result of the strikes that have been scheduled since the start of the school year. “There have already been six strikes since classes started, which means a week of lost lessons for many pupils,” Marta Abecassis Valente, the mother of one of the pupils at the school, told Lusa. This Friday again (the strikes tend to be on a Friday), schools face further risk of closures because a strike scheduled by S.T.O.P (the Union of All Education Professionals), which is demanding better working conditions for non-teaching staff.
