Parliament opens to public for Christmas concert

Parliament will host a Christmas concert next Thursday (December 19) on the Passos Perdidos – open to the public for the first time. The concert will be performed by the National Republican Guard Chamber Orchestra. According to the speaker’s office, access will be by registration (via email to dmc.correio@ar.parlamento.pt) and the concert, which will run for half an hour, will take place after the afternoon plenary session. This initiative is one of a number by the speaker, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, to bring parliament closer to the general public. At the beginning of his mandate, Aguiar-Branco stressed that one of his top priorities was to ‘signal to society that Parliament is an open house’. He argued that ‘we need to deepen the meaning of this signal’ through ‘simple actions that can make a difference’.
