Parliamentary speaker José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, in the hot-seat for failing to ‘slap down’ what he considers to be ‘freedom of expression’, has since come up with a proposal to create a “vote of repudiation” for MPs who want to complain about “hate speech”. The proposal is to be analysed by parliamentary groups. CHEGA leader André Ventura has already said he thinks this is a “bad idea”. CHEGA by coincidence is the party most accused of fomenting ‘hate speech’. Indeed, recent complaints suggest CHEGA MPs have been calling female members of the opposition ‘cows’, and even ‘mooing’ when these particularly MPs take to the floor in debates. CHEGA, it has to be said, refutes these claims entirely.
