SANDRA NASIC is performing at Voz do Operário in Lisbon on November 8.

Sandra Nasic was born in Göttingen, Germany, on May 25, 1976 and later became the lead singer of rock band Guano Apes.

After graduating from high school she had intended to study Art and Design. However, during a university party, she was spotted by the other three members of the future band and, after chatting, began rehearsing with them.

Guano Apes has come a long way since its early days playing in bars and discos and has become a best-selling band in countries like Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands, Croatia and Poland. They sold 150,000 copies of their debut disc Proud Like a God in the United States and toured with P.O.D. and Creed.

Sandra has an exceptional voice for a female rock singer, able to cover a powerful range to lilting vulnerability in each song. Her style has made her stand out in the music scene since the beginning of her career. She has been compared to many male singers such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down) and Chino Moreno (Deftones). System of a Down, Deftones and Korn are, in fact, some of Sandra’s favourite bands and have influenced her musically.

In 2001, she was given an EinsLive Krone award for best singer.

After Guano Apes broke up, a short farewell tour in support of their greatest hits package Planet of the Apes took place in February 2005 and Sandra announced a solo career, signing a contract with previous Guano Apes’ label Gun.

Her debut album, released in 2006, was entitled The Signal. The album is full of electro/pop/rock songs showing her new ‘face’ and new song writing. The Signal is full of variety in many ways, giving personal stories about Sandras’ passion for music and science fiction stories, all of this mixed with gripping melodies and a great dynamic.
