Political commentator Luís Marques Mendes put into words what many people will have been thinking when they heard PCP communists (a party that has been shrinking in size and following for years) congratulate Nicolás Maduro for the win he declared in transparently fraudulent elections just over a week ago. He said in his regular Sunday evening slot on SIC Notícias that the party had lost its principles, entering “into suicidal lunacy” – or rather, further suicidal lunacy. Even Venezuelan communists have said as much.
