Pension rules to be ‘updated’ to ensure new pensioners can benefit from increases in first year

The government is to revise new pension rules to allow them to be updated in the first year.  The information was put forward by Luís Marques Mendes on Sunday in his commentary slot on SIC television, and seeks to ‘right a wrong’ that has persisted for years. Right now, any ‘new pensioners’ are unable to benefit from pension increases UNTIL they have been in receipt of their pension for one full year. It is an iniquity that makes no sense to pensioners’ movements (and may not even be legal). Again, as the government strives for national approval in the run-up to a major political showdown with the opposition, this necessary update too should be announced this week.
