Days of desperate searching ended in heartache on Wednesday (October 16) when the body of 73-year-old José João – who had gone missing from Portimão Hospital just under a week earlier – was finally found.
He had been taken to Portimão Hospital but was apparently able to leave on Thursday, October 10 without anybody noticing.
Family and friends, police and firefighters had been searching for the pensioner for days, even using drones to scan the area surrounding the hospital, but to no avail.
The body was found by a passerby in Sítio de Palheiros –around two kilometres from the hospital – on Wednesday.
Correio da Manhã tabloid reports that GNR police have investigated the area where the body was found, and no signs of crime have been detected.
