Our current cat shelter is facing a pressing challenge (…) we will soon need to relocate
As we close 2024, we reflect on another remarkable year made possible by our incredible volunteers, donors, and supporters. Thanks to your dedication, we were able to facilitate the adoption of 64 dogs and raised crucial funds through various community-based events. These contributions have helped us care for hundreds of abandoned animals, covering their medical needs, food, and other essential services.
Our foster program expanded in 2024, with more families offering their homes to animals in need, providing love and safety while they awaited adoption. Our volunteers logged countless hours, organizing events, helping at the charity shops, walking dogs, and offering hands-on care. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to our mission.
A new cat shelter: A critical need
Since 2008, Cadela Carlota has been caring for abandoned animals in Lagos. However, our current cat shelter is facing a pressing challenge. The land we occupy is being redeveloped by the city of Lagos, and we will soon need to relocate. While the Lagos municipal kennel is expanding, it won’t fully meet the needs of our area. Therefore, we plan to build a new cat shelter on land where our dog shelter is currently located.
This project will be completed in two phases. Phase 1 will involve constructing a metal shell to house up to 100 cats. This shelter will feature both indoor and outdoor spaces for injured, sick, and healthy cats, as well as quarantine areas for contagious diseases. Phase 2 will include a sanctuary for feral cats that cannot survive in the wild.
The cost for Phase 1 is €75,000, and we need your help to raise this amount in 2025.
