Pet Corner: Super champ… second helping

Jenny Clarke has been taking care of business for the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve and breathing a sigh of relief. “APAA chalking up 30 years!” Wow! “We’ve been through the best and worst.

‘Here to Help’ has been stretched to its limits throughout our time. But hey worth it!” A recent article on ‘Chump’ and his rescue has resurfaced. “Neglected since a puppy.” Fiona recalls. “He used to follow us on walks. His owner had mental health issues.

He was being continually harassed and attacked by local dogs.” Fiona (Fi-Line fame) finally took him in. Sneaking out for his unattended ‘walkabouts’ got hit by a car. “After he lost a leg, surgery, recovery, he developed an infection.

Which meant 11 days at the vets and more surgery, to treat the necrosis.” Poor ‘Chump’. “He is even more loyal and cuddle-conscious.” Fiona is smiling. “Perhaps we should call him ‘Super Champ’ now?.” Yup. Not the first nor the last of APAA’s long list for helping hands.

“The cost for care, surgery and meds has been paramount. But we were determined to get ‘Chump’ through this.” Anita ‘Pop-Up’ Shop’s birthday girl, has asked her dinner-party guests to make donations for Chump’s bills instead of gifts. APAA Champions all round! High Five team.

Meanwhile APAA’s Zélia Santos (aka cat woman) rescued a pregnant gypsy dog. Finding it a home whilst at the vet’s surgery. Fully recovered. New owner collected her and took her home.
