Presenting an eclectic exhibition of fine quality photographs at ‘Galeria Arte Algarve’ in Lagoa, this is the first occasion that the Algarve Photographers Group (APG) have ventured into a commercial gallery.
Based at São Brás Museum, the group began in 2008 with three enthusiasts and now has 48 multi-national members, ranging from top professionals to absolute beginners – and everything in-between.
Meeting twice monthly for practical workshops and lectures conducted in the English language, there are also regular photographic challenges and outings, followed by afternoons where members show and compare their images.
Five major exhibitions take place at the museum each year when the public are invited to cast votes for their favourite photographs.
A framed certificate is awarded to the winner during the opening evening, which has become a major social event often attracting as many as 100-plus visitors.
The following week members attend a critique of the same photographs when technical and creative aspects are openly discussed and opinions given.
Providing many stimulating opportunities to produce new work, members review their progress continuously endeavouring to improve their photographic skills.
Organised by the group’s President Mary McClay and a Steering Committee, the APG is arguably the most active group associated with the Amigos do São Brás Museum.
Invited by Rolf Osang, the director of Arte Algarve, 50 of the group’s most iconic images have been chosen. Each photographic print is an original in a frame 60 x 50 cm in size, signed and priced at €130.
Members of the APG will attend the vernissage which commences at 3pm on Saturday, September 6.
Galeria Arte Algarve is integrated in the huge old winery Única-Adega Cooperativa do Algarve in Lagoa with direct access from the EN125 and ample free parking. Also entry into the gallery is free of charge.
The exhibition continues until the end of the month and is open every day, except Sunday, from 11am until 6pm.
