Olhão Pirate Festival returns for 10th edition
Olhão is preparing for the return of its popular Pirate Festival. Between July 24 and 27, the event will take place at Jardim Patrão Joaquim Lopes in Olhão from 6pm to midnight, after which pirates will ‘occupy’ Armona Island on Sunday, July 28, between noon and 6pm.
The first four days of the festival will see the riverside garden near the municipal market come alive with street food, handicraft and a wide range of live performances, from the telling of tales about sea monsters to the ‘invasion’ of pirates. Fire shows, “nymph parades” and many other performances are also planned.
One of the highlights of the festival promises to be a pirate parade on Saturday morning (July 27) along the town’s main streets and local market.
The festival will end on Sunday on Armona Island, where locals will be doing their best to protect themselves from the “pirate attack”.
This will be the 10th edition of the popular event, which is organised by Olhão municipal council and municipal company Fesnima.
