PJ arrests 11 suspected of drug running between Lisbon and Madeira/ Azores

PJ police have arrested 11 people following searches in Lisbon and Madeira suspected of being associated with a criminal group that purchased, transported and sold drugs (namely heroin and MDMA) destined for the autonomous regions of Madeira and Azores (where issues of drug taking, particularly among younger generations, are prevalent). The 11 are made up of six men and five women, aged between 23 and 56. This is an investigation that began last year. “Tens of thousands of euros in cash” were apprehended in the operation, as well as “other relevant evidence”, the PJ has said in a statement, thanking the Air Force for its support in transporting suspects from to the mainland. All those detained will now be presented before magistrates to hear bail terms.
