PORTUGUESE police have this evening (Wednesday) dismissed a television report which says they have received the results of forensic tests on samples taken from the McCann’s holiday apartment and hire cars belonging to the group of friends.
PJ spokesman Chief Inspector Olegário Sousa told The Resident: “Portuguese Polícia Judiciaria has not received any results from the English laboratory.”
Asked if there was a possibility that the UK police might have received the results, Olegário Sousa said: “The Portuguese police is leading this investigation and the English police is cooperating.”
He added: “When the results come to the investigation coordinating team, obviously they will not be released. We will not inform the media about their reception or contents. They are part of a criminal investigation.”
Sky crime Correspondent Martin Brunt, who broke the news, told The Resident: “I have no doubts that the police have the results.”
He was doubtful that the Judicial Police (PJ) would reveal the results of the tests but it was possible that the there would be a press conference to officially announce that they had been received them.
