Play in the Parque presents ‘Jack and the Bean Sprout’

Show takes place in forest behind Barão de São João

This year’s Play in the Parque, “Jack and the Bean Sprout” will take place on Thursday, July 6, in the forest behind Barão de São João.

Since 2006, the annual Play in the Parque has become an unmissable event in the Algarve calendar. Produced by Aljezur International School, the cast of this outdoor theatre production includes students, parents and teachers as well as members of the local community.

The children of Barlavento International Primary School, owned and run by the same directors, will also be performing a dance at the beginning of the show.

This year’s show takes the audience to the magical kingdom of Storyland where they meet fairy tale characters old and new.  Every fairy tale has a “baddie”, and this story is no different. The wicked witch, Bruxa Belle, has decided to sell Storyland to gormless Italian businessman, Giuseppe Carbonara, and the fairy tale folk have 20 minutes to leave or she will turn them into fish fingers and eat them … with ketchup!

The narrators include Supergran, the White Rabbit, Cat in the Hat and William Shakespeare, and are played by A level Drama students of Aljezur International. They will help the audience make sense of the crazy twists and turns in the plot.

With some cabaret acts sprinkled throughout the performance, “Jack and the Bean Sprout” is guaranteed to be fun for all the family.

The outdoor show takes place at Parque de Merendas which is in the forest behind the village of Barão de São João. The audience is invited to arrive from 4pm onwards for drinks and bbq snacks, and are advised to bring a blanket or deckchair to sit on.

Local up and coming band “The Untitled Project”, who are all ex-students of Aljezur International, will be playing from 4.45pm and the show itself starts at 6.30pm.
