Portugal’s prime minister Luís Montenegro has cancelled his official agenda for the next two days to “supervise the coordination of the fight against fires that are hitting the country at this extremely difficult meteorological juncture”, says a statement issued by his office this afternoon. The statement adds that the PM is in contact with European partners to “guarantee the necessary international support under the European Civil Protection Mechanism”.
