Portugal through to ‘final 16’ of Euro 2024 championship
Prime Minister Luís Montenegro was one of the many thousands who took to social media last night to congratulate the national team on their victory over Turkey in the group stage of the Euro 2024 football championship.
“Congratulations to the whole team! We’re in the last 16 of #Euro2024,” read the message. “This is a victory for all of us Portuguese, who never give up or stop believing. Let’s do this @selecaoportugal.”
Last night’s victory, in Dortmund, has secured the national team first place in Group F, even though there is still another to go (on Wednesday at 8pm). This is because it now has ‘six points – three more than second-place Turkey, while Czechia (already played) and Georgia (still to play) only have one point apiece. ND
