It is Montenegro’s second visit to a European country since taking office
Portugal’s prime minister, Luís Montenegro, is travelling to Berlin today (May 24), on his first official trip to Germany since taking office, for a meeting with the country’s chancellor, Olaf Scholz, that is said to be aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
A source in the prime minister’s office told Lusa that the trip, Montenegro’s second visit to a European country since taking office, is aimed at outlining the priority areas for strengthening bilateral political, economic, cultural and scientific cooperation over the next few years.
The same source added that the meeting will also serve to address key issues on the European and international agenda, with a focus on preparing for the next European Union political cycle, after next month’s elections to the European Parliament, as well as the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The prime minister was due to arrive at the Federal Chancellery at 11.30am local time. After his meeting with Scholz, the two government leaders are scheduled to hold a joint news conference.
Montenegro’s first official visit abroad was to Spain for a meeting with its prime minister, Pedro Sanches, at the Moncloa Palace.
