PM promises lower taxes, less red tape for investors in country

Portugal’s prime minister, Luís Montenegro, invited Portuguese emigrants in the United States to invest in Portugal – promising them lower taxes, simplified licensing and less bureaucracy. On the last leg of his trip to the United States before travelling home to Lisbon, the head of the PSD/CDS-PP government told a meeting with the Portuguese community in Newark, New Jersey: “Today, more than ever, we need investment in Portugal, so that we can have a stronger economy”. According to the PM, the government particularly wants to “facilitate and encourage investment in Porto” and “help those who see Europe as an opportunity for a market of more than 500 million people, so that we can be the gateway to Europe for many Portuguese or even American companies”.
